I have always been naturally fascinated by the built environment, ever since I was a child constructing houses with “Legos”. Confirmation of this can be found in a kindergarten grade report where my teacher commented that Johnny is “wonderful with Legos”. My inclination to draw and build as a child led to a proposal from my mother for me to grow up to be an architect. From that moment on, I had always dreamed of being an architect, and a great deal of my life had been dedicated to pursuing that goal.

My drafting skills and education received from attending The Ohio State University and graduating from the University of Akron enabled me to gain employment in various architecture firms, where my talents and love for architecture focused on the drafting and design of high-end custom homes and residential additions.

Ironically, I slowly began to realize that my dreams of being an architect were diminishing in lieu of discovering artistic interests and skills beyond those that I gained in the field of architecture. It took about 10 years of drafting in various architecture firms to provoke an intense desire to see what life could offer outside of the all too familiar setting of a drafting table and a CAD station. After much deliberation, I decided to investigate career paths that merged my design and drafting skills with my desire to explore my creative talents while serving others in more of a mentoring / teaching capacity. As a means to that end, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from The University of Akron. I share this story because my college experience was what enabled me to finally realize who I am, and who I want to be. I realized that being a home designer combines all of the characteristics of the professions that I have considered the most--architect, teacher, and artist.

My college experience also taught me that my passion for architecture was impossible to abandon. The body of artwork that I produced consistently revolved around my perceptions of architecture and prior work experiences. This realization was further solidified by stumbling into the opportunity to perform freelance design services for multiple residential building projects. As a freelance designer, I earned enough to pay for almost all of my college tuition and living expenses for three years while gaining valuable life experiences working part-time from my home. After graduation, I worked for a production home builder only to become frustrated by not being able to explore my creative potential. Therefore, in 2007, I founded Terranova Home Design, L.L.C. which, despite the long hours and sacrifice, has already proven to be more fulfilling than I imagined. In terms of my career, I have never been happier.

I am confident that you will find me as someone who is: well-trained, highly experienced, self-motivated, dependable, honest, trustworthy, thorough, personable, flexible, creative, and passionate. I am my own worst critic, and I work hard to be the best that I possibly can at everything I do. I understand the importance of maintaining healthy and productive business relationships and that I must always be open to new ideas and methods of construction. I am accustomed to meeting the demanding schedules and deadlines common to the fields of architecture and construction. I am a team-player and will do everything that I can to help you achieve the vision you have for your home.

If you are seeking a competent, creative and experienced home designer that can offer you high quality residential design & drafting services at reasonable fees, please take the time to review the information in this website along with the photo gallery of projects, which represents only a few examples of the many custom homes that I have worked on since 1990. Furthermore, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet in person so that you can see firsthand how my skills and passion about residential design can make your project everything that you dream and vision.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you personally so that I can provide you with further examples of my work and so that we can discuss why I feel we can build a strong working relationship together.
